FURTHER EXTENSION OF Road Closure - Kempsford to Hannington

Hannington Road, Kempsford

16/01/2022

Please note there is a further extension of the closure period of the unclassified road linking Hannington and Kempsford (through Hannington Wick).

As mentioned previously, the condition of the deck surface at Hannington Bridge was considerably worse than anticipated and it has required substantial corrective works. This is not a situation that could have been predicted with any certainty prior to commencement of the scheme. Indeed, it has taken up until today to effect repairs to the concrete and apply the essential waterproofing membrane to the bridge deck. The next stage in the process will be to reinstate the carriageway, and this will commence on Monday 17th January.

As a result of the above, a further extension to the road closure period is required, but I am now confident that the road will be re-opened to through traffic by Friday 28th January. The extended road closure period has been agreed by Streetworks teams at both Swindon Borough Council and Gloucestershire County Council.

We have been informed by Swindon Borough council that the road from Kempsford to Hannington will be closed from Monday 15th November for 4 weeks. This is to allow work to be carried out on the bridge at Hannington Wick. The usual diversion through Castle Eaton will be in place.
